Do you ever wonder if you joined the wrong MLM? Or maybe you are already jumping from one opportunity to another?

In just this last year I’ve bought a million dollars in real estate, traveled to 4 different countries, and developed a brand new social media platform for mobile phones and the internet. And when I was younger, I earned a university degree, and achieved my goal of being a pro skateboarder.
I’m not bragging. I just want you to understand that these goals and I got along just fine. MLM and I – as much as I wanted the good life it offers—not so fine.
To say I was extremely frustrated is putting it mildly.
Maybe more so than average because I am used to being so productive, and I am also so into effectiveness that I had ZERO PATIENCE for the long and winding MLM road I was on (and the scenery wasn’t even all that pretty).
I’d look at the leaders in the business— By “leaders’ you know who I mean: the gold and diamond directors, the big guns raking in 6 or 7 figures, the ones with the huge houses and boats and fun and frequent vacations, the gurus the rest of us look up to and try to emulate…
Well I’d started thinking that the leaders in this business were there because they all had something I would never have…
Deep down I knew better, but it was all about the proverbial sour grapes as I contemplated quitting. (And don’t worry, I am not going to give you a pep talk here. You can get those from your upline. I have better ways to spend my time – and yours – than that. So bear with me a moment.)
The problem was I had tried following my upline’s every instruction, probably the same instructions you have. I did all of the following:
- Made my 100 names list and called and called.
- Implemented the 3-foot rule (if you’ve not heard of this Old School MLM rule yet, it means you are to consider everyone within 3 feet of you as a prospect, hunt them down and corner them into joining. And then, here’s the real kicker— get them to do the same. Oh fun.)
- Attended the meetings, dragging all I could with me, kicking and screaming (them not me, well sometimes me too. More fun).
- Called all the numbers in my rolodex, including friends, family members, co-workers (even the ones I only saw at the water cooler).
I did it all. Ok. I admit it. I did not call my high school crush. I set up meetings with refreshments, dragged my white board from home to home to present a plan to people (who probably spent most of the meeting wishing they were home on their sofas). And I brainwashed myself into doing all this by listening to all the audios and reading all the books my upline recommended. And I did most of it with a smile and high expectations.
Just thinking about it makes me cringe.
It’s no wonder that most quit their MLMs within the first two months!
I didn’t quit though. The rewards, what I wanted out of my business, were too important. And I knew the potential was there. I knew it was real. So I made a commitment to myself. I would hunker down and spend 90% of my free time for one year studying this thing, and in particular studying the leaders and what it takes to be at the top with them. Besides studying leadership (in life, not just MLM), I as well focused on productivity and how to apply those principles to MLM. Just for the record, 90% of my free time is huge…
I treasure my free time beyond reason. This love of freedom coupled with ambition and desire is why I’ve learned to be so effective (something I can teach you).
Perhaps you also have failed to make more than pocket change, if anything, with one company. You can’t figure out why. You’ve followed your upline’s directions. You don’t lack motivation, and you’ve set your goals. Maybe you’ve invested more money into your product than you’d like to admit to your family.
And still, you end up on detours that lead to dead ends.
Or maybe you haven’t got this far yet. Maybe you are spinning your wheels at the starting line. Or like most, sitting on the curb, wondering whether you need to try a different car, a newer model, one with a better GPS, more gadgets, one that goes faster…
Maybe you’ve decided what you really need to get to the top fast is a hot, new red sports model instead of the four-door sedan you already own. Sure it will cost thousands more, but maybe that will be the ticket…
If you are like many frustrated network marketers, you may be wondering if all you need is a new vehicle in the form of a new compensation plan, new product and new upline.

Your problem is very likely not your vehicle. Yes, it could be – but likely it’s not. What I learned during my self propelled course of study is that 9 times out of 10, the problem is:
- Not the opportunity,.

1. MLM doesn’t work.
